sandals printed angkorwatI’ve seen the post Angkor Wat Temple Printed on Sandals (saying that That is the pictures of Cambodian’s priceless Angkor Wat temple have been printed out on Sandals, which have been sold in Vietnam), Sandals bearing Angkor Wat on its soles sold in Vietnam: Adding insult to injury?, Is Vietnamese Friend of Cambodia?, and the uncertain sources of sandal production were considered neglected Angkor Wat Temple that described there were two sandals confiscated. But it is still not able to find which company or who produced it yet. Wat a f***ing is this!

  1. Reaction on Angkor Wat Temple Printed on Sandals:
I think this sandals is very nicely design. I’m not sure why this would be sold in Vietnam and not Cambodia. I’m not sure what the writing in Khmer is saying. Can anyone translate? This can determine if this is simply a hot tourist item or something more.

  2. It does look good and something I would wear and should not be offensive. If we are to modernize in this world and succeed we must let go. We can have Khmer pride with modernity. This item should be sold in Cambodia and mainly by Cambodians!!!! I hope that the company is a Khmer company and if not, then all Khmer should try to get their hands on as many as we could and make some money. Why not? If they are making money why shouldn’t we?

  3. I was not born and raised in Cambodia but i find this very offensive and disturbing. When i think of Cambodia, i think of the Angkor Wat and the Angkor Wat is even represented on the Cambodian flag. Conversely, the feet is the lowest part of the body and many consider it unclean. Therefore, printing our national symbol on the sole of shoes is an indirect approach of saying Cambodians are like dirt. I will never ever wear these shoes and i think they should be burnt.

  4. oh, btw, i wouldnt mind wearing a pair of thongs with hun sen’s face imprinted on the soles

  5. I could see why and how people would be offended especially when the product is from Vietnam. I guess I just see the world from a different perspective than most. The feet take us to our destination and are just as important as the head. A little dirt doesn’t hurt. It is our home and mother. Ever heard of mother earth? Food grow from the earth. we came from the earth. People treat the feet like they treat a dark person. Also, it’s like when people get upset when some Thai people say that Angkor Wat belongs them. Angkor Wat belongs to all Khmer and all Thai people are of Khmer heritage therefore it does belong to them. Whether Angkor Wat should be under their flag now that is a different story. People are so quick to get upset and usually lose sight of the real issue. We should fight and get upset over losing the entire country not over a stupid sandal design. Everyone knows Angkor Wat is our pride and joy. Grow up.

  6. Angkor Wat is regarded as one of many wonders in the world. And I am also proud of being Khmer/Cambodian. I agree that modernization is sometimes good. But it is not all the time. You can run a business with the creative idea. It should gives the people more advantages than disadvantages. But it shouldn’t harm somebody or hurt one’s feeling. Anyway, printing the Angkor Wat temple on the sandals, I find it offensive, and we should take the action on this act. Angkor Wat is Cambodia’s patrimony. Angkor Wat (he/she) represents Cambodia. If you’re putting your feet on the picture of Angkor Wat temple, it’s like you are putting your feet on Cambodia.

So can you guess what other people think if someone put the picture of the persons or patrimonies they like most in their contries on the shoes? I quess they would have the same feeling as I do right now.

However, I won’t wear those shoes (even think of it), and don’t want to see them on the market any more.

Try to love ourselves first before we need sometone’s love.
