Application forms can be picked up at the MCC office beginning Mon. Sep.24, 2007
This program is a cultural exchange that promotes peace and reconciliation through building international friendships between Christian young people of various countries and North America. The IVEP participants stay in the United States or Canada for one year starting in August. MCC assigns each individual to a practical, work assignment and a caring, Christian host family. MCC seeks to place IVEPers in work assignments related to their professional interest and experience.
Through the program, participants, their sponsors and their hosts gain understanding about various backgrounds and cultures, new languages, different patterns of thought and varying methods of work. Emphasis is put on getting experience of vocational skills that will prove useful as participants return to their home countries. Participants also develop their Christian faith and discipleship through worship with people of another culture. IVEPers do not receive a salary and must promise to return to Cambodia upon completion of their term. It should also be understood that IVEPers are not employed by MCC in the United States or Canada and will not be employed by MCC when they return to Cambodia.
MCC has conducted this program more than 50 years and MCC Cambodia has been sending Cambodian IVEPers since 2000. There are usually 60 – 70 young adults from about 30 countries who participate each year. This year MCC will select 5 to 7 Cambodian applicants who meet these criteria:
v Be a committed Christian (at least 2 years already) and attend a local church regularly
v Be between 19 and 30 years old and single
v Have training or experience in one of the following vocational areas: agriculture, building and construction trades, social service, education, retail service, library service, media, communication and computer service.
v Have good physical and mental health and exhibit strong moral character
v Demonstrate interest in building bridges of understanding and friendship across international boundaries
v Demonstrate strong English speaking and comprehension skills
v Be committed to returning to Cambodia at the end of one year
